平成26年9月8日〜平成28年3月予定で改修工事が行われるため、休館します。この間、青銅器館は無料観覧でき、仏教美術資料センターも無料で特別公開されます。(ただし、正倉院展期間中は除く)
1894 年に帝国奈良博物館 本館として建てられたネオルネサンス様式の重厚な建物で、設計は片山東熊。ベージュの石張が印象的で、側面からの眺めはヨーロッパの宮殿 を思わせる。東側に入口があるが、こちらは建物の裏側なので注意。
音声ガイド が200円です、音声ないのは説明文が全部収録されてますので手元で読めるのもいいですね。
