Was built in 752 as the main temple of the Japanese Buddhism. The main hall became about 30% smaller after reconstruction in the 17th century, but still be the biggest wooden building in the world.

Nick Tan

Marvel at the sight of the largest wooden building in the world, but be prepared for the deluge of people. Never show paper to the deer as they will eat it. Watch out for deer poop along the way!

Aldona

The size of the Daibutsu blew my mind. BLEW. MY. MIND. Lots of other interesting statues inside. You probably know this but if you are to choose one spot in Nara to visit, this is it.

Joshua Peters

Absolutely stunning temple and daibutsu. Do yourself a favor and get exploring as there are tons of little temples further up the hill .

Wally Muzlantov

You get to see the largest temple built and see the largest Buddha inside the temple . Be prepared for the deer as they will come right up to you and also be careful of their poo.

Chris Lee

Magnificent view . Would say this is by far the best and must visit temple in nara . Gives you goosebumps by looking at the statue and good architectures for photos

My favorite temple along with the 1000 statue temple in Kyoto. Definitely a must see - and there is a deer park on site as well .

This temple houses the biggest bronze Buddha in the world. Even so, the rest of the temple is impressive to explore. Take your time. Entry runs 500¥ per person.

After a while you're going to appreciate the serenity of area WITHOUT the deers. Be careful near those deers, they can get really frisky and muzzle up uncomfortably up to you.

Pictures don't do it justice, as the size and scale are striking in person. It was the largest wooden building in the world until 1998.
