Todai-ji Temple is a buddhist temple Nara located in Japan.
雑司町406-1 Nara , Nara 630-8587 Japan
Was built in 752 as the main temple of the Japanese Buddhism. The main hall became about 30% smaller after reconstruction in the 17th century, but still be the biggest wooden building in the world.
Marvel at the sight of the largest wooden building in the world, but be prepared for the deluge of people. Never show paper to the deer as they will eat it. Watch out for deer poop along the way!
The size of the Daibutsu blew my mind. BLEW. MY. MIND. Lots of other interesting statues inside. You probably know this but if you are to choose one spot in Nara to visit, this is it.
Absolutely stunning temple and daibutsu. Do yourself a favor and get exploring as there are tons of little temples further up the hill .
You get to see the largest temple built and see the largest Buddha inside the temple . Be prepared for the deer as they will come right up to you and also be careful of their poo.
Magnificent view . Would say this is by far the best and must visit temple in nara . Gives you goosebumps by looking at the statue and good architectures for photos
My favorite temple along with the 1000 statue temple in Kyoto. Definitely a must see - and there is a deer park on site as well .
This temple houses the biggest bronze Buddha in the world. Even so, the rest of the temple is impressive to explore. Take your time. Entry runs 500¥ per person.
Come here for the Great Buddha, but don’t miss the fabulous overlook at Nigetsudo
Easy to get to from Nara station. Spend the day in nearby private gardens , cheap antique stores at nearby ally ways.
After a while you're going to appreciate the serenity of area WITHOUT the deers. Be careful near those deers, they can get really frisky and muzzle up uncomfortably up to you.
Pictures don't do it justice, as the size and scale are striking in person. It was the largest wooden building in the world until 1998.
Best place in Nara, the wooden structures are truly amazing, the Buddha is HUGE. Have fun passing trough the hole in the pillar!
Bear with the crowd&the smell from the deers swarming the nearby deer park . Well worth the visit.
This temple is really amazing, is a must see if you are around Nara or Kyoto. The statue of Buda is impressive.
Fantastic place to visit, but very crowded during local school excursions season. Dang I forgot to bow to the deer to see if they bow back! ????
One of the most beautiful temples in Nara , but very, very, very crowded . It's totally worth the entrance fee.
Saw the 80m tall Buddha statue here! Everything is magnificently huge.
The largest wooden temple of the world. Housing an even larger Buddha
most impressive temple I visited in Japan . it's also the largest wooden structure in the world.
Lovely Buddhist art here. Can get crowded at times, but is a very pleasant temple with grand statues .
Nara is a must in touristic trip in Japan , like Florence or Siena if you visit Italy
Tends to get very crowded with a lot of tour groups, seemed to be empty a half hour before close. Deer around the main gate but not inside the temple grounds
Worth to visit this big Buddha temple - largest in Japan .
You can see the gigantic shrine , temple and statue of buddha.
Biggest wooden building in the world, it's a great place to visit.
I went here many times between 2002-2003. A peaceful place to get away and see the largest wooden building in the world.
Amazing structure . Second largest wooden structure in the world.
Delicious Matcha at Museum 's Café .
A Nice wooden building and beautiful Buddhism exhibits !
While most temples in Japan are more intimate , this one is just impressive in all senses.
Enter the hole n the pillar, and u can tell ppl that u fit Buddha's nostril!
Impressive building. Definitely a must see in Japan
Bring a bottle, there is a fountain where you can fill up with water.
Gorgeous and awe-inspiring!
The best Buddha of the world.
Do not be surprised by the locals trying to pass through the hole in onw of the wooden columns of the temple : it's a gate for Nirvana, if you're not fat is worth a try!
Feed the female deers (no antlers). They know how to bow. Deer biscuits can be bought for ¥150.
Big Buddha is big. Really impressive. Must see!
Can you fit through the hole for life long happiness? The hole is exactly the same size as Buddha's nostril
The biggest wooden construction in Japan
Closes at 4:30pm...not 5pm
Feed the bowing deer on your way to an impressive giant Buddha!
Go inside and you will find a very large statue .
1 great Buddha 2 big Buddha
it's just so huge, both the temple and buddha inside! really impressive!
DONT GO THERE ON A RAINY DAY IS AN GREAT TIP NO ONE EVER TOLD ME XD XD XD... its cool but dont go to Nara on a specific day instead visit Kyoto then go to Nara for a quick visit...
Sure, worth visiting it!
Beware of the floor! Many "traps"
Expect the most deer poop walking up to this temple .
The biggest wooden building in the world, with a giant buddha. Not to be missed! Go in the late afternoon for incredible light. - Olive Logie
Crowded with lots of school children when we were there. Beautiful view- grab some tea from the small shop up there and enjoy the view. - Chloe Condon
