if possible, goto 2/f and sit on window side then you can get the view of garden and temple . in my case, my family had lunch after 2.00pm, no more people. of course the day was week day at low season.
Better to just visit the temple
It's OK. Nara doesn't has a lot of cheap options .

Nara park with deer i think marvelous place to enjoy with free entrance fee and you can enjoy to touch & selfie with deer. I never go such a place very tame animal and open area ! - Putra Putera
