The local land owners blocked the path to drive on so you'll have to trek roughly 2.25 miles and about 50 mins one way. So just over hour and a half round trip not including stopping. Worth it though.

Robbie Watson

Great place to visit for the barren scenery and wrecked plane . If arriving by the bus , make sure you get off quickly/first and get your photos in before the Chinese get to it!

Jonathan Percy

There are markers on the black sand/rocks that you can follow all the way to the wreckage . Best to use a 4X4. You won't see the plane until you are practically there.

Magaly

Really easy to find. Driving from Vík to Reykjavik, it's before the one way bridge , look for a gate on the left side. If not driving a 4x4, it's a 30 minute worthy walk from the road .

George M.

If you don't have a 4WD car, leave it by the main road and be prepared for a 45 minute hike on an otherworldly moonscape. You can even walk down the beach if you have the time after reaching the plane

John Breznen

Very unique experience all around. Highly recommend finding a tour to rent bikes rather than walk!

Pete Williams

Be warned: people dont care if you’re taking a picture, they WILL climb in front you

David Ladera

Awesome abandoned DC-3. Specially if you are lucky enough to visit it without people.

Humaid Binyelaiyel

Really strange but nice, have in mind you can't reach it by car you'll have to park and walk for 4 km

Jay Bee

Bring water and snacks . The walk from the main road to the site is probably 4km. On a hot day can be painful there is only rocks & sands.

SmS K

A small aircraft! Please don’t raise your expectations too high. But it’s still worth seeing it if you have time

Jamie Huson

North of Myrdalsjokulsvegur is a metal pipe gate on the left off highway 1. Enter the gate and follow the tracks into the gravel. Don't stray into the sand or your car will be stuck

Rafael Marin

The walk is long (+7 kilometres in total), but the sight is amazing, specially before sunset .

Samuel Cane

Find the gap in the fence and follow the track for 5mins (by car). Pretty sure you'll need a 4x4 as the track gets pretty gnarly

Tommy Tan

Drive slow, it will seem like forever when you're on 15-20kmh. The wreck is also hidden by the sand dune . For a different perspective, try to take the silhouette of the plane

???????????????????????????? ????????????????????????

When crossing the gate, don't go right. Take the road to the left!

Kenneth Wong

Walk appx 4km for an abandoned plane . Don't forget to take a picture with the mountain background.

David Z.

You definitely need a 4WD to go there ! Buy it worth it !

Austin

Ignore the comments about needing a 4x4 -- that is ridiculous. Most of the drive is over a rocky lava field . Just don't drive onto the sandy beach and you'll be fine.

Greg S.

Tough to get here in the snow. Bring your super jeep tires !

Karin Gattringer

Better take a walk in winter time, the road appears treacherous.

Michal Hanisch

It is quite long, even it does not look like that from parking lot . 3,5 km one way

ᴡ Vetrady

The sights.... Plane ... Black beach

Kees Plattel

Totally take the hike if you don't have a 4x4!

Jiří Kocián

Nice to see this old plane . Be ready for 3km walk there.

C.Y. Lee

WWII era DC-3 that ran out of fuel and crash landed. Eerie and awesome.

Honza R.

It's just a wreck of plane on a beach ... But still, go there, take a photo and find a nearby cache ????✈

Calvin Sun

Chill in the pilot seat! Read more

Mark Ashworth

Try not to get your car stuck in the sand.

Claudio Romani

Now available a shuttle service

David Holtz

Worth the trek. The actual wreckage is slightly east of the trail , so you can walk off-path and shave a few minutes off of the hike .

Andres Nieto
