This place is awesome. Be sure to climb the steps and head up the trail for bonus prettiness. Also the first tour buses arrive at 8:30am, so plan accordingly! (It's much better without huge crowds)

If you walk up the stairs and go past the gate, you can do a nice 5 mi. out and back hike that gives you a private waterfall tour . For the more adventurous, you can thru hike to Thorsmork (15mi).

The trip up to the top of Skógafoss may be a bit challenging and it's certainly nearly impossible in winter with all the iced steps though once atop, the view is grand and amazing.

One of the landmark waterfall of Iceland. Compared to the other waterfalls in northern area such Godafoss, Dettifoss, Selfos etc it has clear water. Don’t forget to hike up to see it from the top, too

One of the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland . It is next to highway No. 1 with big car park that is few steps away from it. Also, there is a caravan park in front of it.

Hike at the top of the falls was my favorite thing so far in Iceland. I could have stayed up there for hours!

Bring a heavy rain jacket and you will be able to more fully enjoy the bottom of the falls which feels like a sheet of rain

The view from the midpoint trail up the steps is really quite breathtaking. As always, go early before the crowds and you will be rewarded.

Truly powerful foss. Impressive. The stairs to the top are tough and windy but if you walk the trail above for a mile or so it is quite rewarding.

Go up the steps 1st (before the main waterfall ) & keep walking until Steinbogfoss - amazing views of the river . Then get wet by the main falls

Should definitely be on your list. I found it most beautiful from a little further back. In my opinion you can skip the way up, it won’t get any more interesting.

Trip up the hill and view are great. The trip down is pretty challenging in winter. I came down on my ass and got snow in my boxers. Now I'm sitting on the bus freezing my actual ass off.True story.

Totally amazing waterfall . If you have time you can climb stairs to get a view of the top.

The falls at the bottom are stunning, but make the ~15km climb up the trail to the snowfields (or to Thorsmork) to see amazing canyons and hidden falls.

Always try to reach the waterfall on a sunny day! The mist mixes with the natural sunlight to produce rainbow right on the fall. Do not miss that!

I was at Skogafoss in Winter 2019 with icy -8 degrees celsius. Very impressive icicles besides the waterfall . Really cool with the rainbow in the waterfall ... :-)

Do the hike above Skógafoss. There are a million waterfalls along this river . Approximately. Go until you've seen enough and then turn back.

The walk to the lookout is totally worth it. Its a steep climb but take breaks. Walk past the look out upstream for another mini waterfall view .

Skip the climb to the top and take your pictures from below near the falls. Yes you might get wet because it's a waterfall .
