Был установлен в 1935 году в память о павших борцах за независимость Латвии.

За Статуей Свободы находится отель Radisson Blu, на 26 этаже которого есть бар с красивым панорамным видом на Старый Город и Ригу в целом. Стоит туда зайти особенно во время заката .
