Definitely worth doing the tour to see the old court and cells of what was until recently Europe 's oldest prison . The Pendle witches were tried here.
A fantastic guided tour - rather macabre but that's exactly what you want when you visit an old prison !
Worth a visit - guided tour recommended to get the best experience and historical background. Pop to The Merchants for a pint after
Beautiful architecture from years of the castle being in the hands of the monarchy from approx. 1092. With a brief earldom before regain by Henry Bolingbrook (IV) who's father was John O'gaunt.
Do get a guided tour and have the experience of getting locked in the dungeons. Thrilling!!!
Stunning Cafè ..
Sadly no longer the oldest working prison in Europe but the trip round the court is well worth it
I wasn’t there long enough
Check out the shield room!
Apparently there a few 'secret' tunnels underneath Lancaster that no-one seems to know about - would be interested to find out more...
Very limited parking - mostly permit holder only
spoooky !!!
Make sure you try the filter coffee. Single origin fair trade goodness… - John Howarth
Great watercolour exhibition but due to roof damage parts of museum were closed. A great, free, museum to spend a few hours. The kids enjoyed the Roman quiz, you have to ask for the sheets. - Andrea
