Go to a ranger station and ask where the bison are. Huge bison herd and some great hikes . We did the lovers leap trail and it was very scenic .
The "Wild" Donkeys of Custer State Park. Or the common name begging burros. Bring a snack for them, they will forever be your friend!
We took two driving loops through, one focused on wildlife and one focused on scenery. Both great and worth the price of admission. Wish I had more time to spend days actually enjoying all they had.
Magnificent, majestic park that doesn't suffer from being over-loved. Stunning vistas and wildlife . We spent several days exploring. Love!
Slow your roll when you drive through here. It’s breathtaking. A perfect slice of Americana.
Very scenic drive. We were about half way through wildlife loop. When we found 2 heards buffalo & bison . Lots of live deer close by the road also.
There's some decent scenery along the way but the real value is finding a good trail to hike .
Parts of the movie " National Treasure: Book of Secrets," starring Nicolas Cage, were filmed here - at beautiful Sylvan Lake , in the northwest corner of the park .
So much to do and see!! Unbelievable sights.
If you come during late September to mid-May, please be aware of the hunters. Give them space and don't slow down/watch them hunt/call in animals. The camo should be a give away to these people.
If you want to see what North American prairie wildlife looked like before the west was settled, go here.
Beautiful area....full of wildlife and history!
Buffalo were so neat and such a beautiful drive!
Sylvan Lake well worth the trek! Fun little trail .
Our favorite state park of all time in any state .
Everyone said that this was a must-see. To me, biggest waste of $15 ever if strictly for animal viewing . Saw NO bison , sheep, or elk and only a handful of pronghorn. Can't control animals, but...
Lots of wild animals! Very pretty!
A must see!
Awesome park ! Buffalo roaming was a treat. Would camp/hike in the area again.
You can actually feed the wild donkeys here.
Hidden gem
Buffalo alongside the road
Pretty buck
A very nice place , just to roll on through.
Took the Needles Highway from near Crazy Horse, did not see any wildlife , got crazy with a bus going through Tunnel 6. Was not worth the $$ in my opinion.
Stunning mountain lake! Trail around the lake has some great view points. If you are a more experienced hiker, definitely do the Sunday gulch trail. Kayak rentals were fun too! - Stephanie Ditirro
Awesome place and food. We found this to be one of the best dining places. - Cathy Burr
Best views of the monument and great interpretive signs. Going into the rock is worth it - amazing shot of George from almost directly bellow - Elizabeth
The cabins are awesome. heat and a/c when needed! - Doug Leavy
Great trip. Take a hike if you can. More rewarding than the drive - Robert Jim Fulner
Great staff and friendly atmosphere. Food is delicious and the drinks are great. - Ali Abshier
Try the raspberry soft serve! If you have someone to share with try chocolate and raspberry. The combo is really yummy - Cristina Blocher
If you are up to it, the wild cave tour is well worth the work, but try to sign up ahead of time because there is a limit to under 10 people each day. - Isa Reyes
