With 80 acres there is a lot to see. With the construction of bear mountain it became the first zoo in the country to use naturalistic enclosures . Check out the list of babies currently available too!
I loved the exhibits ! Especially being able to go in a majority of the bird exhibits to see how pretty they are up close! The zoo was super clean , great parking and the animals seemed pretty content!
Love this zoo . Animals have plenty of room, elephant path is nice, the feline house is awesome. Check out the lorikeet area: it's also free. Pretty great trip. And yes, the picture is a hyena in a box
Best zoo I've been to. Animals are really active and there's a great Asian culture exhibit where the elephants are. Also: find the semi hidden food truck !
Located at City Park , this family friendly setting offers a Tropical Discovery exhibit along with your favorite mammals plus plants, insects, birds, fish and reptiles. Don't miss the gift shop .
The Denver Zoo is perfect for all ages. With many exhibits featuring up-close and personal expierences with the animals. The Elephant Passage is the best and you do not want to miss thier show.
Not as great as the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo down in the Springs but it still makes for a fun day! Make sure to see the shows like the Elephant and Sea Lion . Be wary of the food prices. Pack a lunch .
This is an incredibly interactive zoo !!! Fantastic conservation efforts and the human to animal experience was much more intimate than other zoos who are known for their obtrusive concrete barriers.
Lots to see and do. Be sure to take a map so you don't miss out on anything. Food on site can be expensive . There are free admission days sometimes. Parking can be difficult to find.
"Let the wild rumpus start!" After you check out Denver Zoo, come to City Park on Saturday, June 8th to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day. Explore dozens of outdoor activities for the whole family! Read more
One of the nation’s most popular zoos , this City Park landmark takes you on a globetrotting safari. Go nose to nose with a polar bear , trade funny faces with gorillas and stretch necks with giraffes.
The zoo gives plenty to do for the day. There are tons of exhibits and food options throughout. Hopefully you get to see the polar bears .
The Toyota Elephant Passage is my favorite part of the zoo , followed by the Edge exhibit . I love to watch the Elephant and Sea Lion demonstrations.
Free days are great. Lots of animals and also lots of staff to tell you about the animals and you can even touch some ..
Such an amazing treasure we have in Denver, the free days can be a bit busy, but mid-week trips lets you explore with out the crowds!
Great variety of well cared for animals, nice layout and strong conservation efforts. A fun day and a great place!
Tranquil place. Not crowded . Free parking . $13 adult. Big place, bring your pedometer
The best is when the weather is between 65-70F. And you can make it a good 3 miles' stroll in there.

30 minutes before the Sea Lion show (2:30) the animals were really active and playful. Get a treat from the Northern Shores Cafe and enjoy watching the Sea Lions while you wait for the show to start.
We have been there a couple times now and we liked it a lot. Other than the sad looking lion it was great
$1 military discount for entrance. Not very big but they are currently working on some better exhibits . Birds, fish & lizards are the biggies. The polar bear exhibit is nice, the sea lions are a hoot Read more
Ride a B-Cycle to and from the zoo , the streets around it are very easy to ride. No hills , bike lanes or sharrows and traffic is pretty calm .
As you come in the gate - to right: elephants , bears , monkeys, birds, cheetahs. To the left: zebras, tigers, giraffes, polar bears , sea lions, fish and komodo dragons (Tropical Discovery).
The Toyota Elephant Passage is my favorite past of the zoo , followed closely behind by the new Edge lion exhibit !
Be sure to thank the volunteers! They do so much- your experience just would not be the same without them. Ask them questions and learn some cool information!
Spans over 75 acres and is home to over 4,000 animals including rare amur leopards, okapi, black rhinoceros, elephants , vampire bats, orangutan, Komodo dragons and more!
I enjoyed watching the trainers do the elephant show. Zoo was well maintained and clean as well .
The new elephant exhibit is really cool- talks about the importance of conservation, but also addresses the problems elephants can cause for the people who share their land.
Went on a free day and it was cold so some of the animals weren't out but overall the zoo was charming. Reminded us of Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.
Nice if slightly smaller zoo for a big city . Orangutan and elephant areas are standouts.
Feeding the giraffes was so cool. Definitely a must do!
Loved Zoo Lights but parking was not fun! Go early before they open for Zoo Lights or later if possible for a better parking experience.
The Denver Zoo has long been an innovator in re-creating realistic habitats: Bear Mountain , built in 1918, was the first animal exhibit in the U.S. constructed of simulated concrete rockwork.
Loved the red pandas , elephants , rhinos, and giraffes. Give that leopard a larger enclosure though - not okay!
Finally a zoo with ample room for elephants . Great zoo . The map needs to be better though, a little more detail would help people not get lost.
Did you know? The zoo was founded in 1896 with a gift to the mayor of Denver–an American Black Bear cub named Billy Bryan; named for William Jennings Bryan, a politician and Presidential candidate. Read more
Great zoo , but definitely prefer Cheyenne Mountain zoo . Zoo lights are pretty!
Go through quickly and you've still spent an hour and a half there! I thought the birds were the coolest exhibit
Bring your own food. You can avoid the crowds at the snack bars and have a picnic .
Excellent zoo with a variety of animals. Good lay out.

Demonstration of teaching animal husbandry behaviors to the lions is way cool. An opportunity to see and hear them up close!
Aye-aye in the primate exhibit is a rare and amazing animal to see. Wait for you eyes to adjust to the dark in order to see them.
