Dinner was fantastic - gumbo & jumbalaya highly rated, blackened fish amazing! Went back for breakfast , was also amazing. Want one in Melbourne!
Sweet Mother is right! Try EVERYTHING. Has a real american soul food diner influence to it. The desserts are out of this world. The peanut butter shake is fantastic
The gumbo is surprisingly good. NZ tends to have a lot of bland flavors accented by overuse of sauce. But this gumbo has kick and is authentic to what we get in the States . Well done Mother’s Kitchen!
Quite a wait for a table. Jambalaya was worthy. Beignets were heavenly, though must have coffee to dip them in. Heaps of American food choices from the menu.
Like this place a lot! Nice music & good food. The achiote chicken burrito is def my favorite apart from the infamous curly fries .
Very busy but staff were friendly and the burger was delicious. Great New Orleans vibe.
I recommend the chicken basket with curly fries . The staff were friendly past time I was there. I prefer going there for lunch in the middle of the week since they are not very busy then.
The spicy gumbo here is just the ticket for a winter lunch . These folks really know how to make a decent roux. (plus you earn serious scene points, by being seen here tee hee)
Usually packed out therefore hard to get a seat and decent wait times but well worth the trouble. Fantastic food!
Vanilla milkshake was yummy! The waffles ...not so much. Really good vibes and atmosphere, service was good too.
Fantastic Po Boys for a great price, the chicken was pretty good too!
Chicken in a basket and curly fries are divine. Pass on the beignets .
Breakfast burrito, one of the best vegeterian dishes Ive tried. Curly fries are a must.
Great 'Murican food if you know what to expect. The shakes could use some work, but if you enjoy a hearty meal don't miss this spot.
Loved the cafe . Very hipster and nice food. The curly fries , turkey taco & ribs were very yummie.
Pies and iced teas are gorgeous. However apparently they intentionally burn their beignets black? So don't go in expecting them fluffy and golden.
Everything is good!! Rice beans and ham is a must have side dish.
Holly Molly! My belly is in heaven. Want to get a ton of awesome food for your hard-earned buck? Come down here.
Their curly fries are the best chips in town
Often busy. Chicken basket with bourbon mash . Great bread and butter pudding with whiskey sauce .
Fun place, mexican influenced foos, curly fries are a must! Loved the service with a Mo for start of Movember!
Jambalaya was fantastic...the sausage was unbelievable!
The decor is great the staff are friendly and the coffee is good
Best chimichanga in Wellington! But if (like me) you don't like eggs , don't come before 11:30, because the breakfast menu has very few non-egg options.
Curly fries are so good and try one of the milkshakes , salted caramal is good.
Jerk chicken is excellent, especially with gap lack beans and rice as one of your two side dishes.
Food is awesome, but if they really wanted to stick to the southern theme they should change Mother's to Mama's:)
The snickers milkshakes are amazing! Definitely a favourite place to eat.
Po boy sandwiches and hush puppies really delicious!
Great place, a Mexican twist on things. The Eggsadua is pretty good.
Try their curly fries and snickers thick shake . So good!
Appalling service each time I've been here and the food ain't all that great anyway. Giving this one a miss in future I'm afraid!
Don't forget to ask what does RCA in RCA Ribs stands for
Try the Spicy Curly Fries - #FoodPorn Curly Fries with spicy Creole Mayo dipping sauce ?! Oh lord have mercy!
Solid food in a very comfortable setting
Get a Peanut Butter Milkshake and order it thick. Get a spoon to scrape some of the peanut butter caramel off the bottom. Read more
It's slightly overpriced for the quality, amount and presentation of the food you get.The southern/soul food idea is one of a kind in Wellington.Too bad the interior doesn't reflect it. Staff is rude
Fried chicken waffles are a great start to the day!
Curly Fries are the best! And the Peanut Butter Milkshake ...
Really affordable and delicious food!
Curly fries are great
Comfortable place but not best value for money
Don't miss the curly fries ! Superb yummy!!!!!!
definitely get the Breakfast Burrito if unsure
Say what you like about the curly fries . I come here for the key lime pie baby!
Fried chicken . Slaw . Dirty Cajun rice . Gravy . Come here everytime I'm in Wellington. Never fails. :D
Go for the breakfast burrito, with all the options, you won't regret it.
Nice food, rather cheap .
They do a mean Snickers Milkshake !
Try the curly fries !
Thunderbird is not your typical cafe but that's what makes it so appealing. Combinations of tasty, different food and warm, familiar service make it one of the best Wellington currently has to offer. - View New Zealand
Excellent food, We'll be back for more. Had the spicy fish and then beef tacos. Got spoilt with the chocolate brownie to finish. - Fiona McBride
Cute place. I only had a flat white but their menu looks delicious. Free wifi! - Shey Ventura
Lovely place, seem to allocate you seating which is weird. I had a chocolate covered plum and creme Fraiche ice cream which was amazing. - Tom Coates
An absoulte must in Wellington. A free museum which is really modern and interesting. Perfect for a rainy day - Caroline Munkert
