The tiers are perfect for studying (quiet ) in winter (warm). Can't have food there, though; but covered drinks are fine.
The Periodical Room is a great place to read and study in quiet . Plus, there is a large amount of natural lighting !

Avoid library during dead and finals week. It gets super packed. If you must then stick w/ basement , 1st,2nd floor. 3rd and 4th will be full
The library should be reserved for people who actually study throughout the semester as opposed to 'finals only' studiers.
If special collections is open its the perfect place for some quiet studying.

The library is for being quiet to study. If people around you are mostly quiet , you should do the same.
