The glass stairs continue underground. You can access to the underground chamber from a passage on your right hand side when you're facing the shrine .
The stone chamber section (not the exterior temple part) is not for the claustrophobic!

ここはお昼休みなしなので、いつでも観れます。

石室から出る時に見える瀬戸内の水平線は必見
ガラスは光学ガラス、一枚石は岡山県の万成石とのこと。
直島のひとたちは「ごぜんさん」と呼ばれるそう です。
石室に入れるときがあります。
