This big drab 200-bed hostel on Taranaki Street is out-dated and the dorms are cramped giving you a claustrophobic feel and the bathrooms are quite simply falling apart and downright filthy. Read more

If you need a meal, then the Indian/Malaysian place downstairs (Roti Chenai) is well worth a visit. We picked it by chance and found it was delicious. - David Orlovich

Small, sterile rooms with industrial lighting. You will be better off renting a private room at Base Backpackers. They are nicer and have a beautiful view! - Joanna
