They hv a Sunday evening menu (snack & dinner ). Interesting items: badam kesari bhath , a sweet semolina snack ; sagu pudi dosa , a fluffy pancake w spicy chutney powder; rasam vada, vada soaked in rasam

Cheen The Curious

According 2 Indian frens, MTR 1924 is an institution in Bangalore. Come here 4 rava idli , masala dosa (we spell it "dosai" in SG), vada ("vadai" in SG), milk coffee . Other items on menu looks gd too!

Podi Idly is one of my go-to dishes if I see it on any menu. Their version of podi is spicier than some other places. What I like is the size of the tiny idlis and bite from the lentils .

Kars Alfrink

This place operates like Swiss clockwork. Hygiene is impeccable, service is fast but friendly and the food: wow. My Mysore style masala dosa was crazy tasty. I could have easily gone for seconds.

Cheen The Curious

Vadai. Eat their base Uddin vada (savoury lenthil donut ): plain, or soaked in sambhar or rasam. Available daily. Maddur vada (made fr rice flour & semolina) available fr Tue evening to Thu only

Cheen The Curious

Extra sambhar, raitha or chutney dips are chargeable. Sambhar: stewed lenthil-based dip . Raitha: yogurt-based dip ; Chutney : dip without yogurt

MTR stands for "Mavalli Tiffin Rooms". 1924 was the year Parameshwara Maiya started the reataurant and originally named it Brahmin Coffee Club. Read the fascinating history on the wall of the shop

Cheen The Curious

Masala dosa : Interesting tri-fold serving. & their base is made fr black lentils & rice (although a waiter said red rice ), which gives it a darker skin. Interesting flavour :-)

Song

Masala dosa was amazing! Pair it with their filtered coffee .

1. Place order with cashier . He will issue you a queue number. 2. Join the queue. 3. Staff will call for your queue number and direct you to your table when ready. 4. Enjoy!

Naveeshini Nair

Really good vadai and carrot halwa. Not too impressed with the masala dosa ,I think you can get better ones in Little India.Service was really quick though, which is great.

Cheen The Curious

Bisibele bhath ($6). Enjoyed this lenthil-rice dish. Not overly spicy . Boiled down a porridge consistency, it is suitable for those on soft food diet

Cheen The Curious

Location: It's on d right side of Serangoon Rd, opposite Perumal Temple . It's d shop w red signage.

Cheen The Curious

Pudi idli. Yummy miniature idlis coated with chutney pudi (aka gunpowder) & ghee . Would order again

Sid Das

One of the best South Indian restaurants in Singapore. Try the vada sambar and rava dosa . They have daily specials as well which look super tasty. The filter coffee is just divine!

Cheen The Curious

Coffee : An unexpected find. Their milk coffee is really, really good. It has a different (& pleasant) fragrance, & tastes gr8!

Deepthi Prasad

The only hotel in Singapore where you can have the Rava Idly! Also don't forget to try the lip-smacking Masala Dosa and Bangalore style crispy Vada. The set meal is good value for money .

Cheen The Curious

Neer dosa ($6) literally means water dosa . Batter made from soaked rice , the dosa is plain. But the coconut chutney gives it a pleasant sweet-spicy touch

Cheen The Curious

One of the best South Indian restaurants in SG, serving mainstays like idli & thosai. Definitely the cleanest!

Cheen The Curious

They have unique/interesting daily specials , even for specific meal times only. Check the menu

Cheen The Curious

Chow chow bhath ($8) is a semolina-based dish. One sweet, one savoury — playful to alternate each mouthful

Melinda C

On my third visit, I had the Vangi Bhath (pictured), Ragi Dosa and payasam. They were all good

Karthick Rao

Looks lik only karnataka based resturant in Singapore. Tastes as best as the authentic Jayanagar MTR outlet. But quite expensive compared to competitors.

allison kean

delicious masala dosa (batter is excellent) and set meal . service harried on a sunday (and there was a wait), but definitely still doable.

Cheen The Curious

Pulliogre (tamarind rice , $5). Also spelled puliyogare. Didn’t quite enjoy the recipe here; wasn’t particularly wowed by the spice combo

Great food - very much like the main branch back home in Bangalore! Perfect dosa , idli, sambar & chutney ????

A winning combination : Onion rava dosa + Mango Lassi + Filtered Coffee .

Cheen The Curious

Rava idli (steamed semolina cakes ): Their famous staple is only avail fr 11am. Something to do w kitchen operations. $4 per pc

Cheen The Curious

Vada/vadai: Extremely crispy on d outside. If it wasn't $2 apiece, I'd be eating more!!

Cheen The Curious

White uppit ($4) was bland & clumpy. Different texture from the usual fare

Arthi Ramesh

The set meal is perfect portion size. The meal arrives soon after you find a seat to sit. They should offer puris instead of rice .

Christian Van Der Henst S.

This is the place to eat masala . Ask for the daily special .

Lieke De Vrankrijker

Masala dosa is a must. Very clean and efficiently run place.

Opposite the temple is MTR 1924, one of my fave spot for dosa. They use red/brown rice flour to give the serving a unique brown colour. BTW, peek into their kitchen & be impressed by the cleanliness - Cheen The Curious
