Shrimp and grits was excellent. Our waitress recommended honey pie with lavender ice cream for dessert . Might sound weird but it was great.
The menu changes but I liked this fruit loop creme brûlée . Very fancy . Upstairs bar is more laid back with great deviled eggs and French fries with comeback sauce
Add the fried oysters . Super quality. Yum! I put them on my salad which was meh without them. The black eyed pea cakes were perfect. The servers were on their A game! Gumbo was weak.
Though locals (especially twenty-somethings) associate City Grocery with its upstairs bar , the restaurant is exceptional and the shrimp & grits are a must.

Dive Bar ? Sorry Four Square, this time you've got it wrong. This is the home to Shrimp and Grits but everything is good. If you love this restaurant then get up and eat your way through the square.
Excellent bar location, drinks and atmosphere right on the square. Restaurant is more hit & miss.
Great restaurant and even better bar . Mature crowd. Few undergraduate students.
They have rotating seasonal menus . The goat cheese and spinach was so good!
Dive Bar four square? I don't think so! This is southern dining at its best. Chef John Currence was a contestant on Top Chef Masters and his menu proves why he made the show- sorry, everything's good
One of the finest places you'll ever go to. It's in Oxford on the square but don't let that fool you

The chocolate chess pie is amazing.
Not only is Chip a great bartender . He has a great split-finger fastball. Ask him to show you.
the pimiento cheese is delicious. they also have a great mint julep .
Chef Patton Robertson of Five Sixty, Dallas, recommends the Shrimp & Grits !
One of my favorite restaurants .
You aren't going to find a better old fashioned in town than right here. Then again, you probably won't find a better anything.
Get the shrimp and grits .
The steak & dessert
Have a reservation get used to a half hour wait, they have no clue about being on time
Short ribs
Their shrimp and grits are the best I've ever had.
Shrimp and grits !
Great food, love the balcony with a glass of wine
Ask for Chip . Best bartender in town .
Talk about a year-round spring break. The $12 Corona buckets on Saturday are giving us Bahamas flashbacks. #wedonthateit - Off The Quad
Eye candy is my favorite but any of the daqs are delicious. I love the eggnog one around Christmas time. They also have the best pizza in town by far!! - Emily Slocum
I love their pizza and pasta, they have good brunch on the weekends sometimes so classic grits etc. live music is the best here. Such an intimate venue! - Lucy Healy
