The Howland Great Wet Dock opened here in 1693, at the time the largest commercial dock in the world. It was renamed Greenland dock and became a base for whaling ships in 1793.
Such a lovely but unpopular place for some unknown reason. Very relaxing, nearby pub is great, clean and quiet .
If you're looking for a bite to eat, my I suggest the Moby Dick half way up the south side of the Quay? Or a cheeky pint the Wibbly Wobbly. Head up to the Thames for a view of the Docklands.
A wonderful place to come and wander around. Watch the wildfowl and sailboats. Read more
If you are out for a run, a lap around the dock is just under 2 km. For a longer route go to Russia Dock Woodlands - the park entrance is by the Moby Dick pub .

A beautiful part of London where you can't find many tourists. - Leandro Vitor
Cheap well equipped friendly opticians at the back. Free eye tests too :-) - Gurmukh Panesar
The Tesco is very good and open 24/5. On weekends it falls short on Sunday. The other shops are so-so but changes are coming with an extension and hopefully will bring in more stylish clothing shops. - Herman Santiago
