Wrights Hill Fortress (built between 1942 and 1947) is a counter bombardment coastal artillery battery in Karori and open to the public 4-5 times a year with guided tours .
On several public holidays during the year they open the fortress up to the public. Lots of tunnels to explore.
Watch the dawn or sunrise from the top. Explore the tunnels on long weekends. Start here and walk the sanctuary fence. Watch out for rabbits !

About 1/2 hour of hiking to reach the summit from Simla crescent. Entry a bit hidden can be easily missed. 49e Simla Crescent, Khandallah, Wellington 6035. The view is well worth the effort. - Pieter Barnard
