康熙 25 年 (1686 年) に建立された鳳山 舊城 孔子廟 (蓮池潭の畔に建つ現在の孔子廟 とは別物) の泮池 とすべく、湖 内には多数の蓮の花 が植えられており、「蓮池潭」という名前もここから来ている。湖 の西側に孔子廟 、春秋閣、龍虎塔といった中国風建築 が並ぶが、いずれも 1950〜70 年代に建てられたもの。夕暮時には、湖 の東側から美しい夕陽が眺められる。
