고전 무용, 발레, 국악, 연극 등의 무대로 쓰이는 국립 공연 시설. 1967년 10월에 착공하여 1973년 10월에 준공했다. 철근 콘크리트로 지하 2층, 지상 4층에 부지 면적 58,080㎡. 건축 면적 12,055㎡, 소극장은 310㎡ 규모이다. 시설 내용은 대극장(객석수 1,518석), 소극장(444석), 연습실, 음향실, 영사실, 조명실, 의상실, 동시 통역실, 분장실, 국악 연주실, TV 중계실, 도서실, 연구실, 미술실 등이며, 그 밖에 위원회 사무실, 상임 지휘자실과 스텝 및 감독실 등이 들어 있다.
