The 1001 statues of Kannon are impressive. One of the highlights of my trip! Check the back for some historical trivia . Get the pamphlet and read it because it's explanatory and succinct.

Very impressive temple with 1,000 statues . They have nice volunteer guides in english, but you can also go in by yourself and get almost the same informations from the signs in the temple .

Come early in the morning to be able to admire 1001 statues without the crowd. It's a pity you can't take pictures inside the temple . For me, it has been one of the most impressive places in Kyoto.

One of the best temples in Kyoto if you’re interested in Buddha statues . No photos allows inside but you can take photos of the outside posters or buy a brochure for ¥500

This place is magical - don't miss it. The main hall with its 1001 buddhas is an incredible sight. Ancient, spiritual, and historic. A must see... it's not at all like the rest of the temples !

Est. in the 12th century, houses 1001 carved wooden statutes of Kannon - the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy in the main hall. It is a short bus ride east from Kyoto Station (buses #100, #206 & #208)

On the outside tog wouldn’t expect much, but in the inside there are 1,000 (or more I think) God golden statues . Impressive and amazing

The central image of Kannon , has 11 heads, but appears to have only 40 arms instead 1000 arms. This is because each arm saves 25 worlds, so 25 multiplied by 40 is 1000.

Stunning amount of extraordinary statues . Cameras not allowed on the inside, which is where all the statues are.

The 33 bays symbolize the 33 incarnations (or icons) into which Kannon may transform himself in his merciful acts of saving mankind from the miseries of human existence.

We got goosebumps when we saw the inside of the temple . Very impressive. Kaçırmayın bence.

Entrance fee is 600 yen. Taking photos inside the temple is not allowed. Taking photos from outside of the temple is OK.

This place is under rated. There are 1,001 life size deities inside. Photo taking is not allowed, but this temple is a must visit! Truly amazing!!

You have to visit the garden too.

Relaxing place, the statues are really amusing.

Try to go earlier in the day, the afternoon gets packed with very rude school children.

天台宗の寺院 で、正称は蓮華王院 本堂。長寛2年 (1164年) 後白河法皇の勅願で平清盛が建立。後焼失したが、文永3年 (1266年) 復原。本堂は国宝 、内部中央に湛慶作の千手観音坐像、木造風神・雷神像、木造二十八部衆立像、その左右と背後に1,001躯の木造千手観音立像 (以上国宝 ) を安置する。内陣の柱間 が33間あることからこの名があり、通し矢でも有名。

国宝 。現存する本堂(三十三間堂)は鎌倉時代の文永3年に建造されたもの。蓮華王院 はもともと後白河上皇の院御所・法住寺殿内に営まれた仏堂だった。三十三間堂内には、手前の雷神像・奥の風神像を始めとした木造二十八部衆立像(すべて国宝 )が配置され、その後方には1001体の木造千手観音立像 (重要文化財 )が整然と安置されています。

正式には蓮華王院 。その本堂の通称が「三十三間堂」で南北に延びる御堂陣の柱間 が33もあるという建築 的な特徴、観音菩薩の変化身三十三身に基づく数を表しているそうです。堂内にある千体千手観音立像の真ん中あたりで御朱印をいただけます。1000体の観音立像は圧巻です。

【国宝 】登録名称は「蓮華王院 本堂(三十三間堂)」…平安後期、約30年の間、院政を行った後白河上皇が自身の職住兼備の「法住寺殿・ほうじゅうじどの」と呼ぶ院御所内に、当時権勢を誇った平清盛の資財協力によって創建したものでしたが、そのお堂は建長元年(1249)市中からの火災により焼失し、鎌倉期・文永３年(1266)に再建されました。

Le temple des milles bouddhas est l'un des lieux les plus impressionnants et les plus sereins de Kyoto (venez tôt). A ne pas rater.

全長120㍍もの軒下を南北に矢を射通す「通し矢」。保元元年（1156年）から慶長10年（1605年）までは、武士達が弓矢の上達を祈願するために行われ、それ以降は諸藩が「天下惣一」を争う場として競技場 と化した。現在も毎年1月15日に近い日曜日に、新成人の晴れ着姿での競技が行われ無料公開されています。

夜泣き泉：お堂創建の翌年（１１６５）６月、堂僧が夢のお告げにより発見したという霊泉。『古今著聞集』によると、「いつも冷たく、おいしくて、飲んでもお腹を痛めることのない”極楽井”で、どんなに汲んでも尽きず、汲まない時も余ることのない不思議な泉だ。」と書かれています。 Read more

三十三間堂の名にちなんで「三」の重なる3月3日（桃の節句）には、「春桃会」が行われます。池坊の献花式や千手観音像を特設の高壇から遥拝することも出来ます。なんとこの日は無料公開になります。

Impresiona ver 1001 Budha y figuras de las deidades, tienen más fuerza que los santos de la religión cristiana. Una lástima que no se puedan hacer fotos.

京都駅からそこそこ近くて素晴らしい仏像（全部国宝 ！）を浴びるほど見られる場所。開門時間も早いので時間調整の場所としても使えます。全体とても見やすいので場内混雑しててもなんとかなります。京都駅からのバスは混んでる ので、待ち時間含めると歩いて来ちゃった方が早いかも 。

三十三に因んで、三月三日に春桃会が行われています。本堂に雛壇や生け花が飾られる他、本日限定の桃みくじ（写真 ）や御守りなどもありました。昼頃からは説法（2014年は瀬戸内寂聴さんでした）を聞くことができたり、うどん や寿司 の提供もあるようです。

3月3日（桃の節句）に催される「春桃会」。この日のみの限定で女性専用 御守が授与されます。500円です。
