Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the borders of Vatnajökull National Park. Situated at the head of Breiðamerkurjökull, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

If you're coming from Reykjavik, I'd recommend leaving at 4am. You'll have the roads to yourself and get to avoid the crowds at the glacier . When you're done head down to the beach for the after party

Take the Zodiac tour . Less people, you will get much closer to the glacier and the ice and it's just so much fun! Not cheap but worth it. Much better than the standard amphibious boat tours .

This is a no. 1 stop for breathtaking pictures. I didn’t do the boat tour and was absolutely happy with the views you get from different angles along the the shore.

Simply awesome!! A must if you visit Iceland . Ride the Zodiacs, you get so close to the icebergs that can even touch them!
The lake is beautiful. There's a trail that goes around it where you can walk and even encounter seals that are just laying on large ice pieces or swimming around.

Get there early for sunrise, or late in the afternoon for bettter photos. No avoiding the crowds unfortunately. Very slippery and icy in winter, so watch your step! Diamond Beach is across the road .
The blue ice is easily one of the most beautiful sights in Iceland . I was there in May and it was unreal.

Gorgeos location with floating glaciers and seals . You have to feel that during sunset , it's simply epic place. Very good spot for photo as well .
This is where I found out what "blue ice" means ???? it's colder than average Iceland so take extra precaution. You can find hot soup in the cabin . Go to the beach to find pieces of ice washed ashore.
Best beer I tasted in whole of Iceland was here, "vatnajukl", made of 1000 year old gletcher water.
Zodiak tour is 100% worth the money. Be sure to book in advance before it sells out. They give you waterproof suits as well .

No swimming icebergs in winter. But come here to see the sunset , while watching the seals playing in the water from a few meters away.
The most important attraction of the ring road for me. Over crowded at times but one of the best places ive ever been.
So worth it. The vastness of the lagoon and distant glacier can only be appreciated in-person. Plus, saw seals !
