Opened in 2016, it is 1 of Japan's 3 great railway museums . Covering 3 floors, it exhibits 53 retired trains from steam locomotives to more recent trains . Also it boasts 1 of Japan's largest dioramas .

A must-see for train lovers. Enjoy a popular event “SL Steam”, a chance to ride a real steam train . The nearby Umegoji Park is a great place for kids to run around in nature.

Superb museum , but 0 english, just the title of each explanations are translated, it's a shame. Very problematic in my opinion, audio guide (in extra) do not replace it.

If you are into trains this is a must go in Kyoto. Opened in 2016 and full of new and old engines plus much more. They also have a train model show (last 16:00) and steam train ride (last 16:00).

As usual, you get a lot from these japanese railway museums . Here the hit is the rooftop facing few lines Kyoto Station bound. And you can spot a Nozomi in front of a pagode

Cool museum but not a lot in English (mostly just titles of things, but not explanations ), so hard to follow/learn a lot without the audio tour .

Best museum ever. Great for adults and kids too. So informative, so entertaining. I really recommend to book 2.5-3.5hrs, it's worth it

If you like trains or interactive museums , don't miss this! They were lacking English audio guides when I went, but there was still a lot of learn.

LOTS TO SEE! Devote some time if you want to cover it all. Good for all ages. There's something for everyone.

The railway diorama on 2F is awesome. There are several shows throughout the day.

You can try out the platform emergency buttons here, but don't try the fire alarms, those are real.

2016年4月29日、かつての梅小路蒸気機関車館 とその隣接地に開館した鉄道博物館 。機関車、新幹線電車、在来線電車など計50両以上を保存展示 。Est-2016.04.29. Ex-Umekoji Steam Locomotive museum. More than 50 car, such as locomotive, Shinkansen, electric car are exhibited.

本館3階南側屋上 のスカイテラス からは、運が良ければ東寺五重塔を背景にドクター イエロー（新幹線電気軌道総合試験車）を撮影する事が出来ます。If you are lucky,You can take pictures of the rare Shinkansen “Doctor Yellow” backed by Five Storeyed Pagoda.

貴重な0系 新幹線が展示 されています。懐かしい記憶が蘇りますが、それ以上に歴史に触れることが出来ることに感動を覚えます。お子様は勿論のこと、大人も１日楽しめます。ただ、乗り物にあまり興味のない方々には数時間が限度かも 知れません。

京都市にある鉄道博物館 。貴重な車両を展示 してあることもさることながら、博物館 内にある引込線が京都貨物駅そして東海道線(JR京都線)と接続しているため、定期的にJR貨物やJR四国といった他社の車両も展示 されており、飽きさせることが無いように工夫されています。

京都駅から市営バスによる急行バスの運行あり。向かうときは利用を推奨。帰りは少し歩いて梅小路公園 バス停 から京阪京都交通バスを利用すると往路に利用した急行バスと同じくらいの時分で駅へ戻れます。（道路 状況にも拠る）

JR西日本の鉄道博物館 というイメージがありますが、主体はかつて秋葉原の交通博物館 や弁天町 の交通鉄道博物館 を運営していた交通文化振興財団で、JR西日本は車両の提供や運営協力を行うスポンサーという位置づけです。JR西日本の株主優待で半額で入ることができます。

前身の梅小路蒸気機関車館 から受け継いだSL群は圧巻 です。館内の展示 は触ってみられるものも多く、仕組みの理解が得られるように工夫されています。きっぷや路線 図、最初期のコンピュータなど、鉄道を中心に様々な分野の展示 があって面白いです。

ジオラマ、581系 、オロネ24等

1F奥のトワイライトエクスプレスの客車が置いてあるエリアの手前に電車や新幹線、機関車の運転台を展示 している箇所がありますが、221系 のモックアップ(車内アナウンス設備も付いている模様)のもの以外は可動部分がないようです。

京都鉄博の敷地内にある喫煙所はトワイライトプラザ近くとここスチーム号乗り場近くの2箇所しか存在しない（2022年5月現在）。2つとも、屋内の展示 棟から動くとやや遠い。

休みの日は当日券の購入に時間を取られるので前売券の購入がおすすめ。当日でもコンビニで買えます。

特別展示 などで使う営業引き込み線とトワイライトエクスプレスの屋外展示 付近にある喫煙所。もちろん、列車 の走行シーンなどを見ながら喫煙も楽しめる。

아이들과 놀러가기 좋습니다.

かっこいい500系 が展示 されています。それだけで十分な価値があります。

空間が広く、意匠も設計もデザインが行き届いていて、もちろん子連れでも居心地がいいです。

扇形車庫と転車台 は圧巻 ですが、本館の展示 もセンスがあり素晴らしいです。走り回る小さい子供に注意w
