Founded between 1811 and 1813 by Michel Schmitz. Legend has it that he lost his way in the High Fens and promised to build a refuge for stray travellers if he'd survive.
Great ski material rental service : no worries if you accidentally break a stick! Afterwards enjoy an excellent soup at the authentic tavern where time stood still. Drink a 'Brune de la Baraque Michel'
At the time the inn was built and until the annexation of the Eastern Cantons, with an altitude of 672m, La Baraque Michel was Belgium's highest point.
The perfect stop after a day of hiking or cross-country skiing in the High Fens. Enjoy a delicious game dish or some other regional specialties.
Perfect stop after a walk/run/bike ride
Have the strammer max. It's delicious and very filling for a good hike .
Or try the plate of home made paté ! Too tasty but you need some room :)
Try Baraque Michel Blanche. Great beer at a reasonable price.
Bediening is vlot drietalig.
Petite carte pour une cuisine simple mais correcte. Le service est froid, caractéristique de la région ou du fait d'être le seul établissement du coin.
Sehr gutes typisch belgisches Essen und immer eine nette Atmosphäre.
Lange wachttijden! Heerlijke Oxo bouillon, beschuit bij chocomelk! Een echte aanrader!
Super lekker gegeten, top bediening
Tout sauf le service un peu froid
Probeer zeker de zwijnenragout! Om je vingers bij af te likken!
N'oubliez pas le coin boulangerie !
Lekkere groentjes!
Belgium's highest point, at 694m. Not quite as high as the tallest building in the world. - 4sq SUs Belgium
The plateau of the High Fens is Belgium's largest nature preserve (4500 ha) and a great destination if you like hiking. But mind you: it's also one of Belgium's coldest and wettest regions! - 4sq SUs Belgium
Good food with a nice view. Must try tarte aux myrtiles. Delicious. - Kurt Peeters
