Mary was our guide and she was terrific. Such a great experience to see this magnificent birds in their habitat. Worth the afternoon. Stay for the penguins!
At Tairoa Head they charge $5 just to get into the visitor centre. Next door the Natures Wonders have a great cafe and a big sign saying "free entry ". Even good coffee
$5 gets you into the gift/coffee shop. If you'd like to get passed the barbed wire fence to see the Albatross , it starts at $20 each for the guided tour .
It's all good providing you have enough money to pay for all entry fees - $20 each here $27 for the castle - too much! We saw tourists turning away when they learned the price!
Cafe was nice. Saw more albatross than we expected.
The tour is well worth the time and fee.
Fantastic place. Enjoy!
The only mainland Albatross colony in the world
The 1hr tour is worth it, especially if you get to see the albatross .
Just go when it is windy and watch the birds flying.

An amazing refuge with a lovely garden. The only castle in NZ and worth spending an overnight stay. If so also book the dinner in the castle, just enjoy it. - Stephan Balte
