National War Memorial

Originally built to commemorate the First World War, in 1982 it was rededicated to include the Second World War and the Korean War. In 2000, the Canadian Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was added to symbolize the sacrifice made by every Canadian who has died or may yet die for their country.

Canada's biggest and most famous cenotaph honoring armed forces who passed away in battle; next to it is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Every Remembrance Day the square around it is packed!

During the summer months you can see military guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier. They are there from 9am to 5pm and change the guards every hour on the hour.
