It is one of the oldest bookshops in Portugal. In 2011, the Australian Travel Guides and Guidebooks editor Lonely Planet classified Livraria Lello as the third best bookshop in the world.

As both a book and Harry Potter fan, this place was absolutely magical for me. One of the most gorgeous bookshops I have ever seen! 3 euro fee to get in though, and be prepared for crowds.
You will go. You will wait in line (even in low tourist season). You will marvel at the beauty. You will struggle to take a photo past the other tourists . You will not find a good book in English.
Beautiful but a bit annoying. Having to pay €3 to go inside is a bit absurd. But if you go, I recommend buying the ticket one day and going there right before you open. You'll go in before everyone
It’s famous with good reason. Apart from the Harry Potter craze, ti’s wonderful to see and worth the €5 ticket. Pick up a book and the entrance fee is deducted from the price!
Wood and books makes you feel like a fairy tale. But very touristic , does not let you feel the real athmosphere. You can claim back entrance fee if you buy a book .
Tourist trap. One of the worst ones ever, hard to enjoy a place with 300 people around you. Overpriced books , they are definitely milking this. Not worth it
It's a touristic hook. Absolute madness. Don't let anyone trick you into going there and waiting in a long-long line . Go get a good old glass of port instead.
Beautiful place for book lovers, especially for Harry Potter fans, since J.K.Rowling got idea for HP here.
Well worth the entrance fee. Good selection of books and seeing the beautiful interior is amazing experience.
One of the most beautiful bookstores I have ever been. Spoiler: the interior looks like wood, but in reality it's painted plaster! Amazing!
Go there for your pic, as the central staircase is beautiful! However, not sure it’s worth the wait or the 4€. The book selection is so-so.
one of the most egregious excesses of capitalism. a bookshop JK Rowling “used to frequent” with no link to Harry Potter turned into a spectacle with absurd premiums, and no room to swing a Kneazle
The beautiful bookstore increases the the fee. €5, that’s deducted when buying something.
Probably a beautiful bookstore , the beauty of the bookstore is difficult to see because it’s way too crowded ! Asking entrance fee, 8€, is more profitable for the owners than selling books .
Not sure what all the fuss is about. Too crowded , you can't even take a foto in a otherwise bea enterier. And the line for entering the place... Do buy tickets online!
The building is clearly impressive, but the book choice quite limited. I would call it a tourist trap.
This shop boasts breathtaking Gothic Revival and Art Nouveau architecture , and is suspected to be part of the inspiration for the Harry Potter series' settings. Read more
Need to pay to get in but boy was it beautiful. Can use the ticket to get discount for books purchased so it’s not too bad.
You can't come to Porto and not visit Lello, but note that the books are seriously overpriced, plus the bar upstairs is severely understocked (no milk ). Otherwise, this is where the magic happened!
In the Top 5 of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, Lello is the first in Top that was actually build to be a bookstore . More than books great architecture and an old style. Amazing to see.
Quite busy, too many people, only portuguese books available or rather a very tiny selection of books in English/other languages is available. Place where "Harry Porter " books allegedly were "born".
It is a beautiful bookstore , but too easy to feel overwhelming with people and it costs 5€.
Fantastic place, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the whole world.Yes, you pay 3€ entrance but can use it if you buy a book . Fair enough.
Very crowded , even on the last tours of the day. If you buy a book , they remove the cost of your ticket. I wish their book selection had been a bit more varied.
It s one of the most enchanting bookstore in the world. It should be in your must to visit list when you visit Porto.
Cool staircase , regular airport bookstand selection. It’s crazy how it’s not about the books anymore.
Yeah the staircase is really beautiful but it’s not worth it. You’re essentially paying £5 for really bad photos of you and 12 strangers on a staircase .
It’s way too crowded and there is a bookstore in Buenos Aries that I think is much more beautiful.
Beautiful bookstore with a lot of history worth looking in to. If you're here as a Harry Potter fan, there is memorabilia in the back of the store.
Overrated place. Confusing ticketing/entrance system. Quite small place. You are not able to take photos or look for the books as it’s too crowdy. Books also are overpriced. Disappointment.
Pretty overrated place, but if you go for and buy some book—it will worth a visit a little more (ticket price will be your book discount )
Awesome if you're a Potterhead. Good selection of Sci-fi books in languages other than portuguese. Great architecture , worth the visit.
The staircase here didn’t inspire JK Rowling’s book . It’s an urban myth which the bookstore profits off of. All the books in this store are ridiculously overpriced, none under 15+ euros. Not worth it
So so beautiful and worth the touristyness. Get there early to beat the rush! Got in line at 9:30 with a buddy and was inside at 10:10 ????
Apparently the most beautiful bookstore in the world that inspired Harry Potter as well . You feel like you're in another world in there
Super crowded , with people more interested to take pictures of themselves in the building and not actually interested in books . The entrance is 3€, which they give you back if you buy a book ????
Definition of a tourist trap. Nice inside, but there's SO MANY tourists that will bump into you and SO LITTLE good books in English! ;-(
Great little bookshop . Whimsically designed, apparently a lot of the architecture in the first Harry Potter book was inspired by this place.
5 EUR entrance to make picture with another 50 people on it is a good joke. Just go to the nearest bar and get a glass of vine. All this place is huge commerce place providing merchandise everywhere.
Definitely beautiful but the crowds make the experience unbearable. Honestly, pass
You have to buy tickets (vouchers ) in advance. They cost 5€ and you can use them as a discount in the store.
Extraordinary book shop !! And don’t miss the sweet cheese cake that is near the place where the vouchers are purchased ! Exquisite !
Really great looking bookstore , I was told it was the inspiration for a lot for the architecture in the first Harry Potter Movie .
what a tragedy of the commons shame. it is such a beautiful bookstore that would be a joy to browse if it weren't for the incessant amateur photographers flashing light in your eyes.
Beautiful but nearly impossible to take photo because of stream of tourists .
For such a tourist spot, it's annoying that there's only one hour in the day you're allowed to take pictures. Be there from 9-10 am.
Beautiful building, the ticket price is used for a discount on a book purchase if you buy something
The most stupidly way to spend 4 euro lol. Small shop, overpriced books and a selfie-taking croooowd. Don't be as stupid as me eheh
The line for the entrance is unbelievable! But it's worth it to go to look at the interior or buy a book
A beautiful bookshop with a gorgeous central staircase , but be aware it can get cramped when busy.
Gorgeous bookshop crowded with books and some other vintage knick-knacks. Great atmosphere, and beautiful antiquarian books. - Jordan Taylor
A feira do livro do Porto é muito mais do que uma feira do livro. Tem debates, lições, cinema, performances variadas.. Duas semanas a não perder! - Maria Silva
Fantastic views! Worth every penny! A must-do activity whilst in Porto! - Sam Perry
Excellent, a little bit expensive, but very good. Impossible to visit Porto without to know Magestic Café. I suggest the rabanada or scones with porto wine Tawny. - Fabrício Motteran
