Stunning ! Very calming and lots to see-you could definitely spend a couple of hours exploring. The aquifer and gardens are the star attractions .

The gate is very impressive and the viaduct is a popular place for pictures! ☺️

Once you go under the viaduct , take the road to the far right (next to a small water stream) and climb up to a small, beautiful temple where very few tourists go!

Incredible temple and gardens . I especially loved the rock gardens .

“one of the most rewarding temples in Kyoto ” - Hojo zen garden with tea

The area around the temple is rather large, but nothing special. Nonetheless, it is cool to go to the actual temple and watch the monks pray

Not much to see at temple itself, but the park around it is nice. Hojo garden is worth a stop and near it, the aqueduct .

This place has lots to see. It is huge. Can spend an hour or more here.

Spend 300¥ and go to the garden . Ultra relaxing and inspiring place!!

Order the shabu shabu in the yachiyo restaurant next door.

Autumn is the best time to be here.

Zen budist temple

Although it's nice, for sure its not the most attracting temple . I would suggest skipping it if you are short on time.

臨済宗南禅寺派の大本山であり正しくは太平興国南禅禅寺で、山号は瑞竜山。正応4年 (1291年 ) 無関普門 を開山とし、亀山法皇の離宮を寺としたのに始まる。足利義満公の時、京都五山 の別格上位に列せられた。重要文化財 である藤堂高虎造営の三門、国宝 の方丈などのほか、小堀遠州の作と伝える枯山水庭園 がある。江戸初期に以心崇伝が住した金地院をはじめ塔頭も多く、日本の禅寺の中で最も高い格式をもつ 寺院 とされる。

疏水、水路閣の奧、最勝院の駒が滝 。いまも修験行者が修行を続けています。朝６時には掃除がはじまり、すこしすると般若心経が響きます。大岩と不動明王
