UNESCO World Heritage Site: 438 Mutianyu (慕田峪) is one of the most popular and restored (1986) sections of The Great Wall.
Mutianyu Rd Bohai Town , Bóhǎi Huairou Beijing , 100415 China
A great place to view the wall without the dense crowds, however we suspect it will soon be just as crowded as the closer section. Hike all the way to the end (Gate 23) - it's worth it!
Been here early this month on one of the week ends, nice place, but lot to cover if you love climbing and don't get with history and remains this is the place you can spend days and hours just roaming
Take the cable up to tower 18, not 6. Climb as long as you can. Buses 916 and 867 help you reach here. The highest you go the better the view . afte #23 is the unrestored part. Do the toboggan glide!
Another world's 7 wonders and my bucket list, checked! Come early, grab some water, bring comfy shoes , and you'll be fine up there. And take the toboggan ride all the way down!
I recommend using the cable car to go to the wall because you will need all your energy to walk over it and see a good portion. After the last tower you can go even further, to a non-repaired section.
An amazing place. Take the lift to the top to save energy for the walk on the wall. The view is fantastic. Try to come on a clear day so you can see far.
Amazing... love the scenery of Great Wall of China ... could feel the great of people long time ago when they build this place .... ,awesome panoramic and very sophisticated stones rocks wall building
We took the cable car up to tower 5 and walked to tower 11 and back then came down toboggan slide at tower 5. I recommend taking the gondola up to tower 14 , walk to tower 5 and take the toboggan down
Amazing views and walk along this wall. It’s best in the morning before any crowds arrive otherwise the lines get pretty long after 11am. The first buses come around 8:30-9am.
You don't need to buy the 60rmb cable ticket. It'll take you 30 min to climb there and the most difficult hiking is actually up on the wall. Save some money on that and take the slide down instead.
Start from MuTianYu is more greeny & beautiful stunning view than start from BaDaiLing. This Gate streches 25KM & 22WatchTowers spaced between each end. So its not ussual route & not crowded .
80 yuan will get you a round trip ticket using the cable car up to the top and the awesome toboggan ride down! The left path is easier, less steep; the right is more challenging.
Mutianyu Great Wall is the best section for you visit and explore, whatever you are only one person or a big group. The best way to get to the wall is take a chairlift up and use the toboggans down . Read more
Certainly the first place to be when your in China. Dress Comfortably and shoes must be comfy . Alot of stairs to go up and down too! Wonderful scenery ! #amust ????
One of the usual entrance gate of The Great Wall of China since it packed with tourist , attractions and gift shops . Rmb 180 for the entrance ticket (slide and swing are included) & free certificate.
We had super nice weather and and an amazing view . Not too many tourists . Great shooting spot ????
Breathtaking views , unforgettable experience. It has all the amenities and quite nicely renovated but the place itself is quite hard to get once you go by public transport
Hike without a guide? Check beforehand how to get to the wall. There's quite a lot of trails , many of which end at the top of a vertical wall etc. The wall is GREAT! Bring 5-10 RMB for "ladderfee".
One of the 7 new wonders if the world. A MUST SEE. Very beautiful and scenic , unbelievable history. Be sure to do the slide , it is so much FUN!!
Worth the further drive from Beijing to avoid crowds. Take the cableway up and toboggan down. Prepare for lots of stairs. Pack drinks and snacks before you come because they're expensive near the wall
Great view and less crowded than other sections. Recommend book a private tour . Would make your trip a lot easier!
There are two cable cars and one toboggan slide . Take the glass cable car up and hike to the toboggan slide . Then take that down. Best route
Start as high as possible (#18) and move up towers. The view is getting better and better...At the end do the toboggan run!
Nice views . Not crowded . I believe the best option for a normal guy like me is to take the cable car to the 14th station and then go left as much as possible. This way you get to see unrestored part.
Much less crowded than the rebuilt that masses attend. Amazingly varied from flat to steep. The chairlift takes one to mid point where you are likely to see this variety. Take toboggan down!
Really amazing place ! Maybe the most iconic monument in China. You must walk through the "non-tourist" area, it's beautiful, less crowded and so wild !
To get here from Beijing, go to Dongzhimen subway station . Exit to the bus interchange to take 916快. Get a stored value subway card. Bus ride us RMB12 but will be halved to 6 if you use the card.
Amazing place. It is better to go in the morning, so there will be lesser people. Don't forget to grab a bottle of water!
My favorite section of the Wall. The toboggan sled is SUPER fun. Lots of souvis. I've never had a problem with the unmarked taxis back to the 916 bus stop to Beijing- don't pay more than 40RMB.
If you continue to the wild wall be sure to bring good shoes as there are a lot of stone rubble lying around. The renovated wall closest to Mutianyu has too many tourists to be fun.
Pro/Con: Mutianyu has a cable-car, optional toboggan slide down, and many vendors selling souvenirs, t-shirts and snacks . If you don't mind the crowds and vendors, the views are spectacular.
As one of the single most iconic & recognizable structures in Asia, there are few bad times to visit the Great Wall of China. We do suggest fall, as the landscape is blanked with autumn colors!
Until you see the Great wall for yourself, you won't really get the idea of dimensions involved. No wonder it is visible from space! Some parts of it don't feel that ancient due recent reconstruction.
It's the Great Wall... Need I say more? Head out and go for a walk. Ponder the fact that people have been walking along the wall for hundreds, if not thousands of years. A must see for everyone!

The best time to visit Great wall, as well as Beijing, autumn. All tours propose not enough time to enjoy it. Try or public transport , or taxi . Its great place to spend the whole day!
Beautiful views , bit of a spiritual journey on the aspect of the wall's vastness and man made. Loved it!
Totally unique and incredible and it is really one of the 7 wonders of the world One of the 7 new wonders of the world.
Amazing climb until the Top! It was one the best feeling I had in my life ????????????
Gondola takes you to the top and you ride the slalom on the way down; fun stuff. the views are spectacular. We went in May and it was not crowded at all.
Hands down the best section of the wall. A lot less crowded and you can toboggan down. BONUS!
This place has a fairly large wall that stretches for miles. Great Wall for photos!
Definitfely take the cable car to the higher sections in winter. Fog shrouds the view but going higher helps you go above the fog.
Mutianyu is 1.5 hours (one way) from downtown Beijing and 1 hour from the airport by road . With the easier walking conditions and fewer crowds, Mutianyu is much more enjoyable to walk than Badaling . Read more

More foreigners here. Nowhere as many Chinese people as Badaling . Take the glass cable car up, hike the wall, and take the toboggan down.

Much better than other areas of the wall. Fewer tourists and even a toboggan you can ride down the hill !
Worth doing. However the cable cars ???? are not as smooth and nice as European ones - Gregory K.
May be the best for coming down from the wall. Please make sure though that people in front of you are not too slow which can make the experience not so hot. Nevertheless I believe it is a must. - Yankin Tanurhan
A must see in China. Best to arrive at 8am for tickets. Opens from 8:30, gets very busy after 10am. Very crowded usually. - Christina Li
Beautiful scenic views & amazing colorist - Andrew O BC 翁
Stunning. Architecture, the detailing of the buildings and so on.. everything beyond perfection. - Dyg. Maisarah
trout is a local specialty, so anything made with it here is delicious. - Sienna P-C
Great sightseeing here. You get cable car to go up and even the Facebook famous 15min down slide a must!!! Far away from Beijing compulsory to get here with a tour. Be aware of Hedious food around. - Adrian Alva
